The Ganga, the river that has cradled this ancient city for thousands of years, has crossed its danger mark. Water is pouring into the ghats, into homes, into the narrow lanes where families have lived for generations. Dashashwamedh Ghat, Nagwan, Samne Ghat, Assi — the places pilgrims travel across the world to see — are now underwater.
Behind every flood photograph is a family standing on a rooftop, watching everything they own float away.
This is not a distant disaster. It is happening right now, in the lanes of Varanasi and across the flood-hit districts of Uttar Pradesh, where lakhs of people have been forced from their homes into overcrowded relief camps — with nothing but what they could carry.
What Families Are Facing Tonight
- No safe drinking water — flood water has contaminated wells and hand pumps, leaving families exposed to cholera, typhoid, and diarrhoeal disease.
- No food — kitchens are underwater, ration shops are inaccessible, and daily-wage families who lived meal to meal have nothing left to buy food with.
- No shelter that stays dry — thousands are packed into relief camps and government schools, sleeping on floors, with children and the elderly most at risk.
- No medicine — pregnant women, infants, and the sick are cut off from clinics as roads disappear under water.
- No livelihood — boatmen, weavers, street vendors, and daily-wage workers who form the backbone of Varanasi have lost their only source of income overnight.
Every extra day without help means one more day a child goes hungry, one more family drinks unsafe water, one more elderly person shivers without a dry blanket.
Sadguru Foundation has stepped in where the need is greatest — on the ground in Varanasi, working alongside local volunteers, boat operators, and relief camp coordinators to reach families that official machinery cannot reach fast enough. We are not waiting for the water to recede. We are moving now.

Because in a flood, the only thing that rises faster than the water should be our response to it.
